International Interbarangay 2023 Collection
International Interbarangay honors and critiques historic Filipiniana forms, liberating them from temporal and traditional constraints. In this theater, process and participation is performance, an invitation to embrace the authentic self within a community.
It imagines a demi-monde, both local and diasporic, in joyful experiments with classic silhouettes. Mannequins customized to fit the team’s measurements stage a diorama that questions what Filipiniana is and who it is for, with iconic styles recontextualized by the house’s playful ease and incorporation of surface design and fabric manipulation.
Through meticulous craftsmanship and collaborative storytelling, International Interbarangay plumbs the natural elegance of Filipiniana while challenging conventional systems of creation and perfection. As it continues to evolve and inspire, the work is a testament to the potential of collective vision in shaping cultural discourse and fostering a more complex appreciation for heritage in a contemporary context.
